- 09.17.09 -- Blast from the Past!
The above thumbnail (click for larger size) is a picture of Sean O'Haire holding an envelope of letters from my students. The picture was taken in May of 2002. At the time I had a class of very low 3rd graders, most of them had repeated 2nd grade. One of the only ways I could get them to pay attention was to talk about Sean, show them pictures, talk about what he was doing, etc. One rainy day I had to keep them inside for recess, and they begged me to let them write him letters. My room partner said she'd never seen them so quiet! We mailed the letters off to Miss Pamela at OVW, and she gave them to him. She told me he read them, and was touched. Every once in a while I see one of those kids, and they still remember getting this picture. I made a copy for each of them, and I still have mine on my desk. It didn't take a lot for him to make these kids smile.
